From the moment you see Buddha on the old alder stump, walk over the bridge and through the meticulously crafted Japanese entry door, you start to leave everyday cares behind. Traditionally, there are slippers at the front door. Step onto an oriental heated slate floor. View the forest through the beautiful wood encased windows and doors. Enjoy the privacy of Seido-en on either of the two patios. One adjoins the house. The other, located at a lower level, is surrounded by bamboo and trees and has an outdoor shower and hot tub.
The kitchen is fully equipped boasting everything you need to enjoy your stay. Many dry goods and spices are supplied. In the fridge, jams, mustard, dressings, HP, etc. and a collection of cookbooks is the icing on the cake.
In 2003 a path started to appear ... winding it's way into the forest and through a small Tori Gate from the lower patio. On the journey are three areas to sit and contemplate the forest peace. Can you hear the bird chorus and Gamelan tuned wind chimes? Perhaps it's just the forest spirits... have a (cold/hot)
outdoor shower. Then slip slowly into the
hot tub and whirl to a blurredcelestial canopy. Climb back up the sandstone
steps past salal and fern to the
Forest House
again for tea by the flames of a cozy stove.
There is always the option of a massage or other bodywork at the Forest House. Also nearby is a wonderful spa offering a variety of soothing bodywork. Top it off with an infared sauna.
After the evening meal seated on cushions at a low table, lay back in the sunken tub. Let the music and candlelight take your gaze beyond the round window into six acres of woods. Weary from a day of nothingness, climb the loft ladder to a queen-size futon and bare feet on tatami mat where round window and skylight bring the trees and breezes in. On the main floor, the three by eight foot reading seat transforms to a queen-size bed for sleep.
During the day, cycle or drive to nearby Ruckle Park. It's like a hike or picnic in paradise. Swim or fish in nearby Weston or Stowel Lake. Kayak in Fulford Harbour out to Russell Island. Or...just relax, contemplate and maybe think about planning an activity tomorrow? |
