About Seido-en and Salt Spring Island![]()
Originally called Chu-An by the first inhabitants, Salt Spring Island was known as a place of healing. Today as then the powerful healing energy still exists on Salt Spring Island. It attracts many kinds of healers and in turn visitors to return again and again.
Seido-en Forest House was built in 1994 by Meror Krayenhoff of Vision Works and owner Wendy Webb. A retreat to an environment which enhances nature and refuge from the daily round. An environment, it is hoped to heal and restore. One can go within relax and be silent or enjoy everything the Island has to offer. In 1996 Seido-en Forest House won a gold construction award and was featured on the cover of Cottage Magazine. Since then, it has been featured in several other magazines and newspapers which focus on Seido-en's unique nature and design. Most recently the Vancouver Sun, the Victoria Times-Colonist and the Calgary Herald featured Seido-en in "Living the Still Life".
The word Seido-en is Japanese. The essence... "tranquility and energy in a forest setting".
In Fulford Harbour, our small village, there is a grocery store, two restaurants, quaint artist shops and lots of colourful locals. Weston and Stowel are only about 5 minutes by car and good for canoeing, swimming and fishing. Cusheon Lakes is about 10 minutes away. Ganges, the main town on Salt Spring is about a 20 minutes drive from the Forest House and has a variety of grocery stores, galleries, restaurants and other amenities.
Visit the famous Saturday market from the first Saturday in April to October on Ganges waterfront, or a self guided island studio tour. Shop at many of the local organic farms growing anything from lilies to livestock. Salt Spring... an Island for all seasons.
Seido-en Forest House is located just 5 kilometers (3 miles) or about 7 minutes from Fulford Harbour ferry on the quiet end of Salt Spring Island. We are tucked in the forest on a dead end road bordering Ruckle Park.
